I have been visiting the Seattle area for over twenty years and it wasn’t until recently, that I finally took the time to spend a few days in the Olympic Peninsula – WOW!! There are several ways to get to the Olympic Peninsula from Seattle, heading there I chose to drive South to Tacoma and then took Rt 101 towards Port Angeles – just the drive alone is gorgeous. On the return trip, I took the Kingston Ferry to Edmonds, which is just North of Seattle. This was only a 20-25 minute ferry ride and cost about $12 for my vehicle and me. You can also take the Vashon Ferry from Southworth to Fauntleroy in West Seattle – that ferry is also about 20 minutes and costs around $9 for one person and their vehicle. More information on the ferry system can be found at www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries. My end destination was a cabin at The Lost Resort, near Clallam Bay, WA.
This area is one of the most Western spots in the state. In my research, I found that if you booked a cabin there between mid-February and May, you only paid whatever the temperature was the day and time you arrived – for us that was $48 for 2 people, in May. The cabin had 2 beds and a table and chairs and a fireplace, along with a covered deck and firepit. There’s also a general store and bathroom facilities – nothing else around for quite a few miles, so bring your own things.
This resort is located on 10 acres, has 30 tent sites but only 3 cabins, and in the summer it books up fast. www.lostresort.net
We spent one day, slowly walking the Ozette loop trail to Sand Point. Beautiful plants and animals everywhere – so lush and so green and at the end was a stunning view of the ocean – and we were there on a crystal clear blue sky day to make it even better.
We drove to the town of Forks for lunch one day and stopped at the museum – Sekiu another day for lunch and more wandering. Our main goal was to just relax and wander and enjoy the peacefulness of the area – which we did. Being a rainforest, on our second day, we woke up to heavy rain, so we decided that day to drive all around the Hoh Rain Forest within the National Park – rain or shine, it’s all amazing. www.nps.gov/olympic – If traveling from Seattle, I would suggest at least 3-4 days in this area, knowing that just getting there takes about 4 hours each way, but as I said, the drive and the views there are gorgeous. We just touched the surface of this amazing area, so I can’t wait to go back and explore some more.

This is fascinating. And beautiful photography, as usual.
